One Lecture September 27, 2018, Thomas Girardi, will speak. He is one of the nation’s leading trial lawyers, having garnered many verdicts of $1 million or more, including high profile cases against Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and Lockheed Martin. He is the first lawyer in California to win a medical malpractice verdict of $1 million or more, and has received honors and awards including “Trial Lawyer of the Year” from Lawyer For Public Justice, an induction into the Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame by the California State Bar, and has consistently been named one of the best lawyers by the Best Lawyers publication and the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Girardi received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1964, and his L.L.M. from the New York University School of Law in 1965, graduating from the former with an “Distinguished Alumnus Award.”
In one of his better known cases against Pacific Gas & Electric, the utility company agreed to pay $460 million to 650 residents of the desert community of Hinkley, California. The residents blamed incidents of cancer and other diseases on contaminated water leaked from a gas pumping station. This case was the inspiration for the movie Erin Brockovich.
